The Whys and What to Expect

Ok, so first off I am pretty much obsessed with veggie juice and healthy eating. I think about it ALL the time. I am either food shopping, cooking, eating, or thinking about what delicious recipe to make next. I didn't used to be this way. In the last two years I have lost 30 lbs just by changing my diet and I finally decided to start a blog because I am so excited all the time I just want to share everything, with someone. And I really want to help other people do what I did because it feels SOOO AMAZING!

How did I get started?
Well the first 10 lbs were really easy to loose, my husband and I spent a year in India and we lived with a lady and her brother. This lovely lady wanted to cook for us all the time so we ate rice and curry for at least one meal a day, but I went on sparkpeople.com (excellent) and began watching how many calories I ate and after a while I just didn't want as much rice (you kinda get tired of the rice). But then we were in India during the months of April and May. It is HOT during those months, 110 to 120 degree weather. Plus the humidity is around 80 - 90%. So we were not hungry and dinner turned into about 3 to 4 mangoes every night.

Ok I had to show the yumminess of Jackfruit
because I couldn't find any pictures of mangos

Then we came home and eating went back to normal and I started a new job, my first year of teaching was not conducive to an exercise program and healthy eating was far from my mind. But I have been trying to lose weight since high school and of course I gained instead (college, marriage). So I finally decided to DO SOMETHING. I talked my beautiful sister-in-law into doing a ten day cleanse with me based on a diet I had done in high school and college. This diet was called FoodFirst, but I don't think its around anymore. So we went raw, almost, and we both lost around 10 lbs and our diets changed for the healthier.
In January we decided to do the cleanse again, but then she found out she was pregnant :) so stopped our cleanse, but we watched the documentary Forks Over Knives and I was reinspired and lost another 5 lbs. And then, a revolution! I saw a post by a dear friend from high school who I had not talked to for years about a premier of a documentary called Hungry For Change. The film made me think about how processed my food actually was and I decided to give juicing a try. I didn't have a juicer so I blended everything up and squeezed it through a cheese clothe and again started to lose weight (plus I finally stopped counting calories). Then I made my husband watch Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and he was convinced so I got to buy a juicer! And we did a 7 day fast together, he lost around 10 lbs and I started to lose weight again, but I did a final 8 day fast (that I stuck to even though we went camping) and now I am at my goal weight!

Honeymoon (30 lbs heavier)              5 Year Anniversary this past June (goal weight)
But now that I know all of this information about processed and unprocessed foods I want to know more and I am changing the way I am eating, slowly but surely. My favorite blog is The Vegetable Centric Kitchen, which is written by my friend from high school. And my next goal is to read Natalia Rose's books on a detox diet. This is a diet for life! I hope you will join me on my journey learning how to make good food taste delicious!
